How to shop for a walk in tub
If you are a senior getting a quote in your home, best to have someone else at your home with you such as a friend or a relative

We recommend you get at least 3 quotes

Best to stay away from companies that do not have their own physical location with several display models( especially in a large city) that means they’re not confident about their products and are not truly invested

Beware of reps that try to keep you from getting other quotes

Never buy from a rep that cuts down others but rather from a rep that can explain to you the difference between the products. Most don’t know much about their own products ( since they never actually worked with the product itself ) so that’s why you need to see as many tubs as possible.

Best to stay away if a rep cannot give you a direct answer for most of your questions and make sure to have a lot of questions
Ask as many questions as you wish, an honest rep will not get impatient
Beware of walk in tub websites with no email address as their goal could be for you to call and once they have you on the phone they’ll try to fill your head with baloney to try and keep you from shopping around

Never buy on the spot, many reps expect you to do so and will offer you " today only discounts ",,,if they pressure you, ask them to leave, if they do not, simply call the police

Never buy from a rep that cannot leave you a detailed quote. That’s because they feel if you did not buy on the spot that you won’t buy at all and also they’re afraid you’ll show competitors their quote

See and try as many tubs as you can, it is important that you can easily get in and out of a tub and also be able to lock and unlock the door easily as well as you can easily use the faucets and switches

Ask the rep to see exactly how the tubs door is secured to the tubs shell on both sides, how large is the tubs support frame is ( size of the bars) and ask to see how the support frame is secured to the tubs shell. If a tub with outward opening door, ask to see door the latch mechanism inside the door

Best to avoid tubs where the door seal is glued on as opposed to be inserted in a groove as it is nearly impossible to reglue a door seal exactly where it needs to be

Note that absolutely no walk in tubs are manufactured or even Made in Canada..if a rep makes one of those claims ask for specific proof…factories would have pictures of inside and outside of their location and an adress

Do not be impressed by companies strongly promoting their tubs as being CSA certified…as we do deal with CSA certified products, CSA does not test a tub for 5 years to see how it wears..they do not open the tubs door 500 times to see how good the hinges are, they do not fill and empty the tub 500 times for an accurate stress test etc…

Note that this is a very competitive industry and many will try to fill your head with baloney so beware

Beware of companies that have been making false claims such as Safety Bath and their dealers such as Safe Bathing Canada and Walk in Tubs Ontario…view the Buyer Beware page

Beware of tubs with aluminum doors as the paint can chip off and mold can grow inside the door as well as beware of plastic doors as they can crack. We speak from experience.
